STEPS TO SALVATION

The first step towards salvation involves recognizing and admitting your inherent sinfulness and moral imperfection. According to the Bible, every individual is born into sin, which separates us from God and his perfect standard. This foundational understanding sets the stage for recognizing the need for salvation, as it brings to light the imperfections and failings that reside in all of us. Romans 3:23 underscores this by stating, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," highlighting the universal nature of sin. In acknowledging sinfulness, an individual becomes aware of their need for redemption and forgiveness from God.

Understanding the consequences of sin is pivotal, as it involves recognizing the eternal impact and spiritual death that sin brings. The Bible teaches that sin separates us from God, not only in our earthly life but also in eternity. Romans 6:23 warns that "the wages of sin is death," indicating a spiritual death and separation from God in eternity. However, it also introduces the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord. It is this dichotomy between the consequences of sin and the promise of redemption that leads us to seek salvation through Christ.

Believing in Jesus Christ as the Savior is central to Christian salvation. This belief encompasses accepting that Jesus, as the Son of God, willingly died on the cross to bear the punishment for our sins, and then was resurrected. John 3:16, one of the most quoted verses, illustrates God’s love for humanity by sacrificing His only Son, so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. This belief is not merely intellectual acknowledgment but involves trusting in Jesus for salvation and yielding to His lordship in your life. In doing so, we accept the gift of eternal life and begin a new journey with Christ.

Repentance involves a genuine turning away from sin and turning towards God. It is more than feeling sorry for one’s actions; it is a conscious decision to change one’s mind and direction in life. Acts 3:19 calls us to "Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out," indicating a call to change and seek God’s forgiveness and purity. Repentance involves humility and the willingness to submit one’s life to the lordship of Christ, abandoning sinful practices and embracing a life that seeks to glorify God. This step is crucial for it signifies a willing surrender of one’s life to God.

Confessing Jesus as Lord involves verbally affirming belief in Him and His resurrection, and it is a critical step towards salvation. Romans 10:9 states that if we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved. This confession is a public declaration of your faith and a personal acknowledgment of Jesus as your Savior and Lord. It signifies a commitment to follow Jesus and allows you to profess your new faith to others, standing as a testimony of your belief and trust in Christ’s redemptive work.

While baptism is not a requirement for salvation, it is a significant step in the journey of a believer. Baptism serves as an outward expression of an inward change and is a powerful testimony of one's faith. It symbolizes a believer's identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As Jesus himself was baptized and later commanded in Matthew 28:19, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," it stands as a model and directive for believers to follow. Though salvation is through faith alone, baptism is a public declaration of that faith, serving as an act of obedience and a symbol of one's commitment to Christ. It also provides a meaningful opportunity for believers to publicly identify with the death to their old self and the resurrection to new life in Christ.

Living a Christian life involves daily surrender to God, ongoing repentance, and continual transformation to become more like Christ. Colossians 3:1 encourages those who have been raised with Christ to seek heavenly things and set their minds on things above. This step involves ongoing spiritual growth, daily prayer, regular Bible reading, and active participation in a community of believers. It also involves reflecting Christ in your daily life, demonstrating His love, grace, and truth to others. Living a Christian life means walking in obedience to God’s Word and being a light to the world, reflecting the love and grace of Christ to others.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I come to You in the Name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. I confess that I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe that Your Son Jesus died on the cross for my sins and was raised from the dead. I repent of my sins and invite Jesus into my heart and life as my Lord and Savior. Please grant me Your Holy Spirit to help me follow and obey Your commandments and to serve You in daily life.
